On Saturday we decided to head to Shanghai to go to an exhibition called The Expat Expo. It sounded like a great excuse to get out of the apartment and Suzhou and spend a day in Shanghai. We decided to take Mr. Fu rather than the train because then we could come home at our leisure and head to a bar called The Boxing Cat Brewery afterwards.
The Expat Expo was held at The Shanghai Exhibition Center. It was like any other exhibition center really, loads of halls and different events. Here's some pictures from outside the hall:
Inside there were 150 vendors, everything from newspapers, to moving companies, schools, hotels, tour companies, wine vendors, grocery stores, bakeries, expat clubs, health clinics. You name things that expats need/want and they were there!
We walked around, talked to a lot of different vendors, had free wine tastings, entered to win trips and coupons for free food and had some fun.
Messing around at the Fields food booth!
Bill really was hoping to win a free trip around Shanghai in the side car. No such luck. But we might try to book a trip with these guys in the future!
Anyone up for a game of foosball?
You can buy the table and it even comes with Chinese players! I think we'll wait until we get back to the US to buy our table for the man cave!
Finally we got to the fun part of the day... The Boxing Cat Brewery! We spent about 4 hours in this place... well 3 hours in 1 location and then another hour in the 2nd location because they had different beers on tap in each location and of course we needed to try them all out!
The Boxing Cat is a micro-brew bar/restaurant in a very expat friendly part of Shanghai. They service American style beers and food. It was a really great place and I know we'll be back!!!
The first place had a great little court yard in a tree lined street where we sat outside and just got lost in the feeling of not being in China. We ate some nachos and had a Reuben sandwich. DELICIOUS! I went for a Ring Side Red beer and man it was delicious! Bill started out with Sucker Punch Pale Ale. We both enjoyed all the beers we tried.
Then at the second location we had to buy a 2 liter growler to come home with of course! After trying a few other beers on tap.
It was a great fun Saturday out in Shanghai where we forgot we were in China, so a reminder that we need to go to Shanghai more often!
